What Motivates You (Blog # 2)
Last Saturday we held a nutrition seminar at my gym. We had a great turnout and 75+ people left amped up and motivated. My goal wasn't to just tell people to eat more vegetables, it was to motivate them to live a better life. We live in a world where it's easy to sit around and eat like crap. Its important to me to motivate people to eat better, move better and feel better which in-turn will make them better.
The question is why are some people easily motivated and stay motivated and others just aren't?! I think it comes down to confidence or a lack of. I told people before they left my seminar that the next two days you're all going to be amped up to eat and lift better but most unfortunately will lose that fire a couple days after the seminar. The ones that lost the fire a day or two later didn't put their plans into action. You can plan until you're blue in the face but if you don't take action and make the necessary changes to ensure your success you will find yourself right back where you started.
Confidence is embedded in us at a young age and can be built up or torn down through the years. Doing what you say you're gong to do is vital in building confidence. When we set goals and never attain them that will create a negative self image of yourself and will drop the confidence levels. Keep this trend up over years and years and pretty soon your confidence tank will be empty. Reaching for the stars with your dreams and goals is great but I think setting small, attainable goals is much more important for the long haul.
One of my power point slides at the seminar was something I found from an old obscure passage that was written by a monk in 1100 AD :
"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.”
We all want to leave the world a better place for our next generation (I hope we all do) the above text explains how making you a better you will in essence create a better world around you. This is the key to motivating others and/or feeding off of others motivation. Have you ever noticed crooks hangout with crooks and motivated humans hangout with motivated humans?! Find a group of focused, hardworking, motivated individuals and stay close to them. You will improve daily!
Set small, attainable goals and make sure you follow through on them. It can be something as simple as food shopping at the farmers market one time a week or going to the gym three times a week. No excuses just making things happen. Like I said before, setting goals is great BUT TAKING ACTION IS GREATER!
After you read this blog I want you all to write down (yes, with a pen and paper) a couple of goals that you will attain for the month of April. They're your goals they can be anything that you want to improve upon, just make sure you write them down and conquer them.
